As part of my involvement in developing the Surgical Education Learners Forum, I had the opportunity to engage with surgical educators, practitioners, and other technologists at the SELF Symposium hosted by Intuitive Foundation at the Intuitive Surgical headquarters in California. This event was packed with high-level discussion about engaging surgical learners from low and middle-income countries and a vision of open and effective medical learning.
As a result of this event, a series of working groups was formed among participants and will continue to develop standards and good practices for the global surgical community, for example, on platform standards, simulator fidelity, and a simulator materials database, among others.
